setteeeeee!!!!!!!

even though the bathroom is still on top of the list of makeovers at MFAMB estate..

i couldn't resist this settee for the dining room..

the finish is crustier than an elephant's knees.

(like how i kept it clean for you instead of saying crustier than grandma's old mud flaps?)

you're welcome.

in addition to the peeling paint, the fabric is old and needs an update.

am thinking either a straight up nubby gray linen or perhaps leopard (bc i have some in the fabric stashes).

yes it's craig.

yes, it was dumbcheap.

decisions must be made on paint and fabric people!

crying real bitter tears that only poor people like myself cry when they STILL can't afford an awesome deal.

my pal nelya from head over heels gave me the heads up about an awesome deal on one king's lane today.

for the bathroom makeover:

orig. $269

SALE: $89

dying.

orig. $469

SALE: $159

dead.

i have never even seen such pretty vanity fixtures!!!

not being able to take advantage of this sale makes me want to throat chop your mom.

for those that asked.

the bathroom makeover is stalled...only slightly.

i need to do one more coat of paint.

i went to home depot so they could mix me up a martha sample and they were out of the base needed to do so.

haven't had a chance to get to a different home depot.

just got this hook today for towels just outside the shower door:

actually the one i bought isn't EXACTLY like this...they didn't have an image on the anthro site of it.

it's the same base with the 3 handle thingys but the arms aren't ridged and no scrolly bits on the base, the balls are white, and the whole thing is shiny nickel.

it looks more than the 20 dollars it cost and it weighs a ton.

the wall area that the towel hooks will go on is very narrow and small so this works perfect.

also..i want this mirror for mike's vanity sink area:

it's not available until november.

it's only $119.

so i have lots of time to save!!!!

the paint i am thinking about is pink sea salt by martha stewart.

her colors are so good.

pink sea salt is white with lots of pink in it.

there is so much light in the bathroom that i am fairly certain it will read more white than pink.

but i found with the pinky beigey peach-ish pukefart tiles in there now, bright white just made the tiles stand out like a sore thumb.

i think the the pink sea salt will make the whole room feel like it was done on purpose.

possibly making the tiles look...(gulp) good?

but i am still going to do a test when i can get my hands on a sample.

if i had those damn light fixtures i swear to god i would run naked across a football field.

ok maybe not bc i would surely have 2 black eyes.

nope.

i would for sure.

paint progress

painting is not my favorite thing in the world.

taking forever.

had to add some warm peachy pink paint to the super ultra white.

not bc i didn't like the bright white, but bc it was brighter than the trim.

oops my bad.

but it is much better now.

it looks better with the pinkish tiles.

going to need 3 coats.

fuck. balls. shit. cockface.

working on 2nd coat now.

the good news is that all the weird angles and jutted out walls have disappeared.

yay white!!

ok then...back to it.

also this:

GOAT.

and don't forget the turds tonight at 10 est.

showing design turd qualities

our master bath:

before you get all judgy i want you to know that i have every intention of changing the light fixtures in time.

and the keep calm poster pumps me up about as much as a pap smear.

ok..so here is a shot of the weirdness of many walls and angles:

necklaces and things.

intend to get some cute hooks, instead of ghetto nails.

2 days after we moved into this house a huge oak tree fell on it and crushed the roof.

this is the damage remnants of a lazy contractor.

and paint job done by a douchebag (me).

worst light fixture ever?

more weird slopes and angles.

this black part actually sits about 4 feet below the actual ceiling:

about these paint finishes:

you see i got the wrong finish when i went to complete the paint job and have had to live with it's amateurishness.

huge windows.

i am thinking bamboo.

ridiculous amount of toiletries.

the cabinet finish is much lighter than this in person.

more orange.

and i can't for the life of me figure out why there is an extra freestanding sink in here.

it's foreign to me.

and..

i did not post 872730482 pics of my bathroom so i could get a bunch of jacked up comments like;

"you need to tear out all of those walls and open up the space"

or

"that shit is so ugly my eyes are bleeding"

i am a renter.

i have a husband who can't see spending 11 dollars on a sconce for a space that doesn't technically even belong to us.

or the 66 dollars i spent on paint for this space.

(which as you and i both know is RIDICULOUSLY cheap)

but i intend to do the best i can to change the shit that's ugly into something that is pretty without spending a lot of money. as in next to nothing.

if any of you have any idea where i can get cheap and interesting light fixtures please let me know.

i will be getting my paint on this weekend...and it's gonna suck a dizzle....

hey there butterbutts.

my bathroom is black and i hate it.

MOSTLY bc its a crappy paint job done by me.

but also bc it has been black for 2 years. (ahead of the curve people..ahead of the curve)

i am going to be painting it this weekend.

behr's ultra pure white which looks like this:

the reason it will eat a dick is bc the ceilings in my bathroom are super high requiring a manly workman's type ladder. there are also skylights involved. and weird angles.

i am enlisting mike for help with the big painting parts...like the walls.

while i do the "cutting". that's painters talk for painting the edges.

pretty white bathrooms herewith:

if only the floor looked like this:

it doesn't.  it looks like throw up.

sadly the sink unit is not pretty either.

but i am thinking of painting it black...

like this maybe?

pretty cool don'tcha think?

and..

i got this from ikea that i intend to use in place of the horrible ass faced light over the door.

it was 11 dollars.

i am going to paint the base matte black and hang it upside down please and thank you.

we are excited about this bathroom makeover, yes?

do you have any thoughts on sink cabinet painting?

any good advice or articles you want to throw my way?

a cake you want to send me?

shit i have cooked recently that is gooder than hell

that right there my friends is "devil's chicken thighs with braised leeks and dijon mustard"

images and recipe from smitten kitchen, adapted from suzanne goin's book,

sunday suppers at lucques.

it is good. really good.

technically this is a winter dish but...

sometimes, even in the middle of summer, i need the comfort of a slow braise.

not to mention it uses one of the cheapest and most delicious parts of the chicken.

the thigh!

so underrated.  so juicy and tender.

you'd really have to kelly that shit up to dry it out.

you should make it.

tonight's dinner however, was meatless.

all veg.

once a week the family has an all veggie dinner.

it's my favorite.

i usually make 3-4 separate dishes using what's fresh and in season at the store.

this time around it was zucchini, broccoli and kale.

now i know kale isn't in season until the fall and winter.

but kale in any season is pretty much the holy grail of nutrition.

here are the 3 dishes i made:

1. squash casserole.

2. roasted broccoli with parmesan and lemon.

3. kale salad with pine nuts.

all delicious. all filling.

mostly healthy.

first up is squash casserole.

i used zucchini but yellow squash or a mixture of the two work great too.

cook some zucchini in a pan with a little olive oil and salt. (i used 4 med sized)

drain the cooked zucchini in a colander lined with a kitchen towel.

cool slightly and squeeze the excess liquid out.

meanwhile sautee one onion in the same pan with a little butter and a little salt.

once zucchini has cooled add it and the onions to a bowl.

to the bowl add 1/2 cup of creme fraiche, 1/2 cup to 1 cup of parmesan cheese, a little more salt and pepper and a 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder. stir up and pour into a small casserole.

next either use whatever bread crumbs you have on hand or blitz some bread in a food processor to make your own. waaay better and i always have a bun leftover from hamburgers in the freezer.

sprinkle breadcrumbs on top of the casserole and drizzle with a little olive oil.

bake in a 425 degree oven for 25-30 minutes.

dumb.

next up is roasted broccoli:

so easy.

take a head of broccoli and cut about 3 inches of the bottom stalk off.

shave the outside edges with a peeler.

cut all stalks in half.

bring a pot of salted water to a boil.

boil the broccoli for 3 minutes.

drain.

toss onto a sheet pan.

drizzle with a little olive oil.

pour 1/2 cup to a cup of parmesan cheese over the top.

roast in a 425 degree oven for 10-15 minutes.

move to a plate and add a bit of lemon juice if you want.

so much better than steamed.

next is my fave fave favorite.

kale salad.

this recipe comes from my pal molly.

it couldn't be easier. or healthier.

take some dinosaur kale. also called lacinto and cavolo nero (if you're a poser or from europe).

i have tried the other kale.  the one that horrible restaurtants use as garnish. it's not the same. don't use it.

chop the kale into bite sized pieces.

next toast some pine nuts in a pan.

put a little olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper in the bottom of a wooden salad bowl.

once the pine nuts are toasted and still hot pour them over the dressing.

immediately toss the kale with the warm mixture so as to slightly wilt it.

toss.

molly serves hers with grated pecorino romano.

i don't.

the choice is yours.

you feel better just looking at it don't you?

you should veg it up one night a week if you don't already.

word.
