autumn scents

for me that is oud, rose, cedar, sandalwood, moss. wet earthy scents with a touch of burning herb and maybe slightly floral. kind of like a basement next to a library with a small window open looking out onto a forest but there’s a fire burning in the library and one outside…burning leaves. i’m eating an orange. but wait…someone is walking through the forest…carrying violets and roses.

i should TOTALLY make candles.

anyway, as a general rule i am no fan of vanilla or pumpkin spice scents but i know many of you are so i have included them. for me if it smells like i want to eat it then i won’t like it. a candle that smells like you are baking sugar cookies would drive me mental.

so, here are my picks for you and me-

  1. tarot deck candle - “incense, turkish rose and pencil shavings.”

2. 34 la redoute candle - “cinnamon, clove and orange float on a warm breeze over a bed of roses, cedar and amber.”

3. pumpkin chai candle - i’ve been told this is the end-all-be-all in fall scented candles. “a blend of wild pumpkin, spicy masala chai, cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon.”

5. copaline candle - “aromatic resin that exudes from the bark of copal trees. fragranced with fruity bergamot and woody notes of cedar leaf, sandalwood and amber.”

6. english oak and red currant candle - “one breath of jo malone london's candle will take you on an enchanted walk through a forest at dawn. opening with notes of juicy redcurrant, this blend releases a bewitching aroma derived from fresh rose that's softened with white musk and roasted english oak.”

7. petit dejeuner candle - “crafted to evoke the scent of a parisian morning. it combines notes of hazelnut, jasmine and cedar to unexpectedly recreate the scent of a baguette straight out of the oven in a traditional bakery.” color me intrigued!

8. tobacco vanille scented candle - “blended with notes of creamy tonka bean, vanilla and cocoa, and falls to a base of sweet dry fruit and wood sap.” srsly i’ll bet this one is sex.

9. ash candle - “charred fragrance of frankincense, cade, birch tar and cedar wood.”

10. nightcap candle - “tree ripened moro is blended with base notes of rye and barley for a smell that is rich, warm, and subtly masculine, with just a hint of citrus.”

11. pumpkin patch candle - “vibrant colored leaves welcoming hay rides, corn, mazes, and the search for the perfect pumpkin. a cool fall day wafting of hot apple cider, warm cinnamon rolls, and pumpkin spice.”

12. spider’s web candle - “notes of black currant, petit grain, oak moss, and amyris.”

monday things

crap. i missed friday things. because i was too busy throwing shit at my tv. #ibelieveher

now it’s october. we had a bit of a cooler weekend (and by cooler i mean 82 instead of 92) with a faint hint of fall in the air. spiders are everywhere in their webs and it’s making me feel very halloweeny. already planning costumes. i’ve got some ideas. i’ll share in the next few weeks.

anyway…monday’s things:

a delightful instagram to follow.

this california roadhouse inn is giving me halloween vibes. the greenish-black exterior is REALLY cool.

if you read blogs you’ve probably already seen robert kime’s london flat. but just in case. rugs, rugs and more rugs, well made furniture and antiques are what you’re in for. also that casual vibe about it all. how does one actually DO that?

i know it’s fall but can we talk about this 10-minute lime cracker pie for a second? i’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s probably friggin delicious. 5 ingredients and one of them is a sleeve of ritz crackers. i’ll bet you could put a halloween spin on this.

madewell now has a men’s selection.

who among you dermarolls? i am very curious about it because it makes more sense to me in the collagen boosting department than any powder. (i heard from a dermatologist that you can’t ingest collagen to improve the production of it…or something like that) anyway, it’s also CHEAP. i think like 28 bucks for the whole shebang. plus how to do it at home.

hello very cute, very now bag for $59.

and a very cute, very cozy lil jacket.

and finally…

this is long but enjoyable.

happy best month of all!

fresh etsy

just out here finding things.

that etsy can be a real dump of candy corn wreaths, doormats with words and upcycled tables but i like to think it’s my job to find the diamonds amongst the turds.

these are this weeks finds:

  1. pearl and bar ear jacket - i like this lots.

    2. vintage silk and lace ralph lauren blouse - i am ALWAYS looking for vintage ralph lauren. i have ‘hearted’ quite the load of it. some of it still grossly unaffordable and some of it a literal steal. like this blouse. how cute with distressed boyfriend jeans, cuffs rolled up a smidge and tucked into slouchy boots.

    3. thin gold accent facial roller - love the black obsidian one. these are great for lymphatic drainage. i keep mine in the freezer and let me tell you, on those extra puffy mornings it’s a godsend.

    4. vintage green coveralls - these have disappeared, but there are some great ones here. and these here are cute. i just think cute with a fancy embellished shoe. like this. or this.

    5. french enamel canisters - i am always searching for these. i love them a whole bunch. i like the more unusual colors and patterns. like these orange and green ones. the patina is perfect and such a nice glossy shine to the enamel. most of these run at least $250 and up. these are under $200.

    6. french enamel canisters - there are loads of blue and white versions of these but this is the first checkered pattern i have come across. and these are under $100. for a full set that’s pretty rare.

    7. layered and long coin necklaces - just a cute, sweet little necklace.

    8. vintage snakeskin western boots - if you were to buy these now you would pay a SHIT TON more. they are $62. size 7. if that were my size you better believe they would be mine. so jealous of the person who snags these.
