after several months i finally feel like i have my breakfast mojo back. intermittent fasting has been pretty hard for this old diabetic. first and foremost i’m fucking hungry when i wake up. ugh. want to punch any and all who say…”i don’t even notice anymore!! i can go til 1 pm before i even NOTICE i’m hungry.” here are two enthusiastic middle fingers right into your smug face.
well praise be and bless-ed day but i think i have finally cracked the code.
and here it is: i don’t have to get up at 6 am because it’s summer. i can and usually do sleep til about 7:30, 8 if i’m lucky. so i wake up and eat a tiny bit of watery fruit (melon usually) just bc it’s best to eat fruit on an empty stomach and i’m not really eating a bunch just a smidge so i don’t think i’ve technically broken any fast situation. then i go for some coffee and then i work out at about 9:30. it’s amazing how an hour long sweaty workout will actually curb your appetite. then i shower, then i eat. and i go for a big bowl of oatmeal and that goes something like this:
1'/2 cup rolled oats
1 tbsp chia seeds
a pinch of salt
a 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
1 cup of coconut milk
cook all together for about 10 minutes or until desired consistency. then i put in a teaspoon of ghee. fat is filling and ghee is like candy butter.
i then add a small handful of nuts (either pumpkin seeds or walnuts or pistachios..whatever) to a bowl
followed by a fruit….either a few chopped dates or a small handful of raisins or 1/4 banana or what i have that’s ripe and ready, sometimes it’s a peach or a nectarine or a few fresh figs.
i then pour the oatmeal on top and add a drizzle of agave and stir. then eat. so good. so filling. honestly it’s really fucking delicious.
this entire breakfast goes down about 11 am. i am good til about 1:30. then i eat a teeny tiny lunch. which usually consists of a slice of toasted sourdough with smashed avocado and everything but the bagel seasoning from TJ’s with a squeeze of lemon topped with a few slices of whole foods roasted turkey.
it’s all very healthy and i feel very good about life with this new me.
i’d love to hear what y’all eat that makes you feel virtuous yet full.
moving right along…
