kitchen of the day (with caveats)

you might remember this kitchen from my post several days ago featuring the home of the people behind house of hackney.

i didn't realize the kitchen was by devol kitchens. my absolute favorite kitchen people.

you can see all their kitchen work here

something about this kitchen feels almost dated, maybe it's the color palette? (i'm a child of the 80's and so i am naturally supposed to have an aversion to dark green and dark wood.) but there are all the details that keep it fresh. the floors, the smeg, the wallpaper, the soft furnishings, the lighting.

i might be the minority here but i'm not really a houseplant person. i don't know...they always look fake to me. and i loathe skylights. for many reasons but mainly because they are impossible to clean. or maybe just mine are. there's a dead bee sandwiched between the glass on one of my skylights in the bathroom. i have no idea how it got there and it's been there for over 2 years. and it will stay there until it turns to dust which, in case you were wondering is at least over 2 years. also: spiderwebs, spider droppings and really fucking dirty glass.

here's the thing...the majority of people who are lucky enough to renovate a kitchen are choosing the same thing- white upper cabinets, brass, a wall of raw wood open shelving, usually a contrasting dark island (possibly black, possibly navy, possibly gray, sometimes green, maybe dark wood) and white and gray marble countertops if they can swing it and if they can't they'll go for something that looks exactly like it.

ok, i say majority but the reality is most people can't afford to renovate their kitchens and are living with whatever was there before them and/or don't give a shit.

point is...i LIKE that this kitchen is a bit polarizing. you're either going to love it (maybe with a few personal tweaks) or hate it (burn it to the ground but save the stove).

unlike the ubiquitous white/brass/wood/subway-with-dark grout kitchens that i think will feel dated sooner than later this one is quirky and personal and i think that will carry it farther.

your thoughts?

but like seriously though i think i'd just move the plants to the porch and be 100% fucking satisfied with everything else. ok maybe, 95% satisfied. skylights *shudder*.

for the home

i've seen a few things worthy of your attention...

i think these tribal frieze textiles are just so cute. as a framed wall hanging, above a door, a window..etc.

i have touched, sat on, looked at and pondered the mina sofa in blossom velvet at anthropologie. i can vouch for it. it's gorgeous. the pink is PERFECT. a bit like watered down watermelon. neither too blue or too red.

i do love a needlepoint pillow. these are fun.

this portrait of a mexican girl is at the TOP of my list.

i still love a bug under glass. i just think they add a lot for very little. i love them paired together but also, just one, centered above a bed. something about the scale is cool to me. i really like the cicada here. very southern. but lots to choose from here

there are a lot of woven/rattan/bamboo/wicker tray iterations out there. the serena and lily bedford tray is the best i've seen in person. it's roomy and well made.

this new peel & stick wallpaper from TARGET is giving me hunt slonem vibes.

the coolest vintage blush and navy square cocktail glasses

vintage ceramic banana bowls. all the dips.

super cute rattan fan back chair ALSO FROM TARGET.

a very affordable and very handsome linen blend tablecloth.

pair it with these seagrass placemats for $9.99 each. also those square cocktail glasses up there for the beginnings of a real cute table situation.

best guest

while my invite to prince harry and megan merkin's (i don't even care) wedding probably isn't coming i picked out some outfits anyway.

dolce and gabbana floral print midi dress / gianvito rossi satin sandals / dolce and gabbana raffia clutch / lele sadoughi hibiscus hoop earrings

which is your favorite? which one should i choose? i'm leaning toward the thais pink pleated gown and red attico mules. i love the color combo and those earrings. or do i go saint laurent mini dress and shock the queen with some leg?

get u some

a tremendous shopbop sale is happening and as i went through the options with the intention of fortifying my own closet with things i could wear in the most practical way i noticed that many sizes were dwindling away. i also noticed that i am really incapable of practical when it comes to shopping. here are my picks...(also if you see something you like either here or there GET. ON. IT. shit is flying. use code EVENT18 at checkout.)

get you a floral kimono-style dress already. so fucking versatile. all-season friendly.

get you an a.p.c. bag in rose. because an a.p.c. bag is classic french lady and will never ever go out of style. your forever spring bag.

get you a fitted denim jacket because you will look thinner and put together with very little effort. .

get you some sunglasses that are on trend (cat eye) but still cover your goddamn eyes without making you look like a cartoon character.

get you some blush, high-waisted pants. these could be dressed up or down. i'd most likely always do the latter.

get you a new - that one shirt you can always rely on - for me it's a similar to this one white madewell shirt that they no longer carry. it looks extra extra tucked into high waisted jeans.

get you some new white kicks. wear them with your new blush pants.

get on the scarf train. i am. i like them tied like this the most.

get you a great gold hoop

get some grecian inspired slides. stop wearing flip flops you animal.

get you a smoking jacket. one that will make a difference in your life.
