a little (too) high a little low

i have looked at olympia and ariadne irving’s home a dozen times since first seeing it. seemed fitting that i did a get the look situation. starting with the dining room. so much is supremely unattainable but dupes can be found. maybe you already have such things- old, ornate mirrors, GIANT oil paintings of moroccan ambassadors, loads of fabric yardage in block prints and florals. and god loves you if you have soaring ceilings, superior crown molding and a fireplace in your dining room.

starting out with that green paint. it’s a papers and paints color which feels fancy. backdrop has this very close color called pretty ugly that would be perfect.

i think there are so many chandelier options you could choose. but this vintage tole hot air balloon light is pretty cool.

this mirror is incredible but fuck its price in its face.

these antique illustrations are indeed lovely but oy the price. etsy is your friend here. or local antique stores.

silver finish candlesticks are a cheap find. and pale rose candles to go in them.

6 blue goblets. a block print tablecloth. and of course irving and daughters plates- dinner, dessert.

not antique but similarly lined and upholstered dining chairs.

a beautiful antique rug, or not. or not.

some brass shell candle sconces.

a carolina irving pillow.

a stately floor lamp and a red pleated shade.

you could buy a ridiculously priced upholstered bench or you could do what they did and use any old bench and throw a pretty fabric over it.

and i hope one day you can find a magical mahogany chest for which to store your liquor.

it’s gross outside. i’d kill for a pool. i’d even do one of those wretched ice plunges. i’m putting ice in my red wine and my oven is on vacation. gonna make only this and blts until october.

this is a very very very affordable floor lamp that just so happens to be not ugly.

while working on another post entirely i came across this RENTAL lived in and decorated by carolina irving’s daughters (of course it’s awesome) and i fuuuhhhreaked out. just..just..GO LOOK AT IT.

cheap 🤑 thrills

sconce- i need some plug in sconces and i have the hardest time finding cheap ones that aren’t HUGE. i want smol. smol and modern and not attention grabbing. these are perf.

curtains- how cute are these? when in doubt go with a stripe. they come in a few other colors and they are 40 bucks for two. BEAT THAT.

jeans- i like the wash and cut of these. light enough for summer but will take you right through fall.

pickleball set- guys i don’t even play pickleball. but how cute are they? i would play though. there’s a pickleball court a stone’s throw from my house.

duct tape- few things bring me as much joy as rainbow duct tape. if you’ve ever bought art from me you’ll know this as fact.

slip dress- i wouldn’t say this is cheap. it’s not expensive though either. it’s also try before you buy (WHICH I LOVE BTW) so if it sucks or you have regrets just throw it back into the bag from whence it came and drop it off at your local whole foods.

cowboy boots- cowboy boots with almost 3k 4.5 star ratins’ for under 60 bucks? well i do declare. also would wear with the slip dress.

bag- a week or so ago a woman came into the salon that i work in carrying the high end version of this bag. i was like where’d you get that bag? she named it and i can’t remember what it was but the algorithm led me to a decent dupe. hers was the prettiest lavender.

marimekko pillowcases- an impactful summery change for your bed for very little dollars.

basic tee- a well reviewed tee for 7 dollars. yes. buy several.

pillow slides- i honestly don’t know how i lived without these before getting them several years ago. they’re my house shoes. they are awesome. i wash them in the washing machine. good as new.

sunglasses- buying expensive sunglasses is dumb.

lonny is back. it’s giving christmas morning.

also i spent $26 dollars on door delivery cookies the other night. it was for TWO cookies. i hate me. me, the toilet paper ration girl. it’s bc sugar is a drug. also am currently out of toilet paper. serves me right.

fwiw, they were each the size of a baseball, fat and round and made with more sugar than is necessary. i had half of one and wanted to immediately take a shower. i ate the other half the next morning bc i am a monster. proceeded to eat the other one in nibbles over the course of the day. it was sweeter than the other one, how???!! anyway…lonny!!

**edited bc people are dumb. some joker left an anonymous comment (i deleted it) that bc i was begging (begging?!) for money they were confused by this post. i can see how someone might think that way bc they don’t really know me and therefore cannot ascertain the ridiculousness of the post or the point i’m trying to make. so let me be clear….apart from the statement about lonny, which in and of itself is the point of the post, i felt like mentioning the cookie thing bc it’s what i would share with a friend (you all) about how i cannot afford to waste money on delivered cookies but i did it anyway bc sugar is a drug and i hate myself for it. we’re all human and humans are really fucking stupid sometimes and i have never regretted a purchase more. anyway…i thought that was clear. hopefully it is now.
