Good morning friends! i have been a busy bee making these bowls.
20 for mix and match (above) and 7 chosen sets- 4 sets of 6 and 3 sets of 3.
below is from an instagram post i made last week describing the process behind the bowls just a bit-
I would imagine to many people making these bowls seems relatively simple. And I suppose in theory it is. Sure you could fashion a bowl with some paint and then paint a line under it (but don't bc that's copy cat stuff right there) but you should know they are deceptively harder than they look. I do them by hand (no templates or cut outs or tracing). I could have done that but that would have been too boring for me. Not because I’m some kind of elitist douche bag but because I like them somewhat misshapen and imperfect. Sometimes even the paint dries patchy and I embrace it. Because it looks HANDMADE. Sometimes my hand shakes or I drag my sleeve through the wet paint and I have to toss it (psa to my artist friends- don't paint in your bathrobe). This has happened more times than I'd like. I have the patience of a hungry toddler. Painting these bowls takes hours. If I'm lucky one bowl takes about 2 hours (this includes drying time). So now let's talk colors. And combinations. Absolutely the most complex part of all of it. For this particular release I've gone in a different direction. Rather than choosing colors for one bowl (2 colors) and then combining several to make perfect sets I've pre chosen colors based on japanese color theory. Yes. You read that right. The cool part about that is mixing my paints to create what are essentially new to me colors. NONE of these colors are straight outta the tube. But eyeballing it- a little of this a little of that and then being giddy over nailing it. This series is fairly subdued. But there is depth and wisdom in each pairing. Whether it's a set of six or 3. Lots of thought goes into these. I think you could make parallels to life in each combination. Soul. Heart. Energy. My hope is that you see what I see and feel what I feel in each combination. 💜

6) 9 x 12 bowls. Acrylic on paper. Based on Japanese color theory #113 is reminiscent of transparent gemstones. Watery jewels warming in the sun.
Seashell Pink, Vandyke Brown, Naples Yellow, Peach Red, Blue Violet, Cameo Pink, Antwerp Blue, Orange Yellow, Gray Olive, Apricot Yellow, Dull Violet Black.
3) 9 x 12 bowls. Acrylic on paper. Based on Japanese color theory #333 is coast and summer, neroli and lemon.
Cinnamon Rufous, Calamine Blue, Lemon Yellow, Violet Carmine, Ivory Buff, Violet Drab.
